Lockdown Doorstep Photography | Harrogate Family Photographer

So 2020 is going to go down in history. Myself and 5 other local Harrogate photographers took on a project to provide doorstep photos to families during the Covid-19 lockdown and I had the BEST time doing so.

We raised over £7,500 (+ giftaid) for Harrogate Hospital Charity in 4 weeks. I photographed over 50 houses for the project and went on to photograph another 20+ houses once the project was over and I had fun at every single house. The most fun part for me, was learning about how lockdown has affected each family and asking what they’d be doing to fill their days. I met families who’d welcomed newborn babies, couples who were supposed to be getting married, parents who were homeschooling, couples who were just soaking up the Yorkshire sun (yes… it made a HUGE appearance), lots of lockdown birthdays and plenty more.

Have a look through my blog at just a few of the houses I visited and managed to capture a moment in history for their household.

The rainbows in people’s windows

I’ll start with some photos of the beautiful rainbows that families were decorating their homes with to bring joy to passer-byers and remind them that there will be happiness at the end of these uncertain times.

The Lockdown Birthdays

My birthday was day 1 of lockdown so I couldn’t even leave my home that day. However it did coincide with the release of Disney+ so did that really matter? I did meet a lot of lovely people on their birthdays too and many of them were celebrating in style!

The newborn babies

What a time to have a baby: So many uncertainties and without grandparents being able to cuddle their new little ones. However these parents and new babies that I met seemed to be rocking it! I was supposed to be doing newborn shoots for some of these little babies at just a few days old so it meant a lot to me that I could capture them at a young age still.

The ones who were supposed to be getting married

I remember planning a wedding and how much work goes in to it so I can’t imagine how it must feel having to postpone it at such late notice but these couples made sure to make it a really special day regardless. From street parties to romantic days of just the two of them.

The ones who just had fun!

I met so many people who were just having a blast! There will probably (and hopefully) never be a time in our lifetimes where we get to stay at home with our family for this long again and these families made sure to make the most of every day by just having so much fun.

The happy dogs!

I actually lost count of the amount of cute pooches I met but they were all SO happy. Their humans were at home constantly for cuddles and attention - what’s not to love!

The pregnant ladies of Harrogate

Being pregnant during lockdown. I’m sure there are pros and cons of this one, but the thought of not having to leave the house when I was pregnant and being able to stay at home through the sickness sounds appealing to me. These lovely ladies were glowing through their pregnancy!

And so many lovely families!

Probably the best part of this project for me personally was meeting so many lovely families. At a time where the country came together by staying at home, it was lovely to see so many happy faces whilst out on my daily walk.
