Weddings in 2020 - A Positive Outlook

Last night, England heard the heartbreaking announcement for Brides, Grooms and the wedding industry that weddings are being cut back, again, to 15 guests. My heart really goes out to all the lovely couples whose weddings have been affected by the coronavirus this year and I wanted to remind you that your day WILL COME. I have been lucky enough, as a professional in the wedding industry, to still be able to shoot some weddings during the pandemic and so I wanted to share some of my experience of how special weddings still are.

So if last night’s news made you worry about your wedding day over the coming months, have a read below.

The Pros of a Getting Married Now

OK, so you’re only allowed to celebrate with 15 people, but there are positives! If you had your wedding planned and don’t want to postpone (again) I’m hear to tell you that Covid weddings can be GREAT!

  • INTIMACY - Just you, your new spouse and your very closest family and friends. No crazy aunts that you haven’t seen since you were 7 or plus one dilemmas - just a small celebration with your absolute favourite people.

  • MARRIAGE - This may seem like an obvious one, but you’ll be married to the person you love. I salute every Bride and Groom who hasn’t let corona stop them becoming a Wife or Husband and wish them so much happiness.

  • PHOTOS - As a photographer I love to get romantic and fun photos of the two of you on your wedding day. When you have less guests, we have so much more time to break away and get those insta-worthy photos that are the envy of all your followers.

  • THE PARTY WILL COME - Most of the couples I’ve had the pleasure of photographing this summer have had a beautiful small wedding this year, but they have BIG plans for when they can party again. Let’s put it this way, one day when this is all over, you’ll be stood opposite your husband or wife with a glass of prosecco in hand, singing from the top of your lungs; “Suuuu-huuummer NIGH-HTSSS” grease-style and you will never have been happier. We. Will. Get. There.

How To Help The Wedding Industry

During my many years working in the wedding industry, I have met countless amazing wedding professionals. A huge proportion of these are independent businesses run by hardworking people and it is such an uncertain time for us all. But there may be ways that you can help their businesses through this hard time without having a wedding. Here are some of my ideas:

  • Photographers - Buy vouchers, have a family photo shoot, order prints/albums or update your brand photography by booking a shoot with them.

  • Cake Makers - Buy a birthday cake from them or order a postal cake delivery.

  • Florist - Utilise independent florists for special occasions - Birthdays, anniversaries or even just an ‘I love you’ gift.

  • ANY supplier - LIKE, SHARE, COMMENT on their social media. Every time you interact with their social media pages, their business is seen by more potential future clients.

Thank You For The Love

I’ve said this a few times now, during the pandemic, but I wanted to say ‘Thank you’ again for all your support through this time. Despite the current climate, I’ve continued to book lots of future weddings , newborn shoots, family sessions and brand photography throughout the last few months and for this I consider myself really lucky. I realise that doing a job that I absolutely love means that it doesn’t really feel like work and I will always be grateful that I am this lucky. Please continue to book shoots, buy vouchers and tell your friends about my business so that I can continue my success and live my dream! :)
